Testing…testing…1…2…3…Is this mic on? Pretty ironic, huh? A disc-jockey company testing a microphone? Making sure that everyone is able to hear them? So, this is the first blog ever written by Dance To The Music. From what I’ve read, a blog is more of a continuous story. It doesn’t have to be the same story, but it can be. The story can change daily, weekly, monthly, but the overall idea of a blog is to tell a story. So, here it goes!
Our story begins over 25 years ago. After working in the Corporate World for a while, Jim Nuzzo decided that music was his passion. Being a people-person, what better option of a career than to be a disc-jockey – surround yourself with music while interacting with people. Jim began working as a disc-jockey part-time, but eventually built a business that today is known as one of the tri-state area’s top-rated DJ Company. But…it sounds easy, sounds like it happened overnight – it definitely did not happen overnight! Easy? I wouldn’t say easy…
This story is told through the eyes of someone who is the “background” of Dance To The Music. Someone who has supported this venture and this company’s growth, but isn’t a disc-jockey. Someone who watched this company grow from a home-based business into a successful LLC (with its own office!). This story is told through the eyes of who else, but the DJ’s wife!
Dance To The Music’s office started in our two-bedroom townhouse in Norwalk. I can remember Jimmy working out of our bedroom – we had a bed, a dresser and a desk that took up most of the room. Jimmy still worked his full-time job, but at night, he would sit upstairs at his desk and talk with clients, mark his calendar with appointments and market, market and market. The time that he put in to Dance To The Music would eventually pay-off, as Jimmy was able to quit his day job to disc-jockey full time. Weddings “back then” were not what they are today. There wasn’t uplighting, photo booths, photo montages. The weddings were simple – Bride, Groom, Guests and Music. Jimmy’s ability to read a bride and groom and help them to choose the music that best fit their wedding was one of his greatest assets. One wedding, two weddings, several weddings, and the calendar slowly filled up with weddings. Most of our business was, and still is, based on referrals from previous clients, especially weddings. If Jimmy entertained at the “Smith” wedding, a few months later, he would have someone from the “Smith” family call and say, “I saw you at my cousin Smith’s wedding, and we want you to DJ at our wedding…” and so the story went. This happened a lot. Were weekends jam-packed with parties, weddings and events? Absolutely! Jimmy was out there working every weekend – doing what he loves. They say if you love the job you do, you’ll never work a day in your life. This is exactly how Jimmy felt about being a full-time disc-jockey. He never actually “works” because he is doing something that he loves and enjoys! And, from the looks of it, I’d say that our clients love and enjoy what he does as well!
I’m not sure just how long a “blog” should be…so, I’ll continue this story another time!
I hope you have an Amazing Day, and please check back, as I continue to write this blog about our story…A story of how Dance To The Music was created…
